TG 5.0 out of 5 stars Suspense, action, character, romance….this book has it all. September 2, 2013Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
One part of reading a book is to go along for the ride. In the best books, suspense has to build and characters have to be developed. The authors have done a beautiful job with this book in maintaining a suspenseful plot, developing the characters, and following the story of the survivors in Watertown, N.Y.
Sudden earthquakes and storms change the world until it is hardly recognizable. Strange lights flare in the night. Ash floats through the sky, followed by pounding thunder storms and snow. Some days last over forty hours, while the sun rises and sets in the wrong direction.
The characters include Mike, an unlikely hero and leader; Candace, a young African/Asian kick-bu** former bartender/dancer; Bob, Native American wise man; Janet, wife to Bob and nurturer of the clan; Tom, former truck driver who undergoes the most startling self-discovery; the dog, man’s best friend/companion/mascot; Ronnie, Patty, and a host of others. There are journal segments included for many of the survivors which lend insight into each character and further invest the reader in their story of survival, community, and new dreams.
There were grammatical errors, but I did not find them terribly distracting. Yes, I had to re-read a couple of sentences to understand the content.
This was not just a shoot-em-up zombie survival story. There was a lot of thought that went into the character development and story line.
